Painting Paseo Park- 26 Blocks of Joy

APRIL 2024- In Jackson Heights, Queens, 34th Avenue is now called Paseo Park. We are thrilled to have 26 blocks of open space for our beloved neighborhood. A new project called “Painting Paseo” was developed by councilman Shekar Krishnan and the Alliance for Paseo Park. On each city block, an artist has painted a granite barrier, all within the same palette. I chose ginkgo leaves which come from the Ginkgo biloba that is thought to be 170 million years old, a living fossil that thrives in urban environments because it is so resilient.

City Artist Core Workshop

OCTOBER 2021- I was so grateful to receive a City Artist Corps Grant through NYFA. As part of the program I led a workshop for kids and adults on the 34th Avenue Open Streets in Jackson Heights, Queens. We used air dry clay and beads to make ALEBRIJES (magical creatures) for the Mexican holiday, Dia De Los Muertos. It was so much fun!

Rainbow Roll color camp at Stony Creek Farmstead

JULY 2021- For the past five Summers I have been lucky to teach an Art Farm class for kids at Stony Creek Farmstead in Walton, NY. We have made masks or quilts in the past and this year we focused on color and silkscreen. We talked about the color wheel, primary, secondary and complementary colors, and silkscreened T-shirts and tote bags with gradations of color. The kids were amazing (as usual), and the setting is beautiful and easygoing.

Democracy in Action, Silkscreen Events

SPRING 2021- My creative colleague Ondine Crispin and I (together we make up Dovecote Collective) received a grant from the Creative Sanctum’s Catalyst Commission to promote voting in the primary elections in NYC. We presented two live silkscreen events on Sundays at the Jackson Heights Farmers Market. The goals were to amplify the importance of voting and to realize community needs.
